If I have an academy in two cities, is it possible for me to research a different Item in both cities at the same time?

Yes it is. Keep in mind that your academy and anything needed for that particular thing needed that you are trying to up upgrade must match in each city though before it does your 2nd city any good. Did that make sense? Question
